Shriver Act Permanently Renewed In California

The California Legislature and Governor Brown have now permanently renewed The Shriver Civil Counsel Act. The Shriver Act is a program where tenants, regardless of their economic need, have a right to the services of a free attorney to defend themselves in an eviction action. In each case, the appointed attorney will ask for a jury trial and conduct discovery, which will enormously add to the cost of what should have been a simple eviction action.

These attorneys will then demand that their clients be paid relocation funds and request that the eviction record be sealed. This allows the tenant the opportunity to rape the next landlord. Clearly our politicians our pandering to their base without regard to the cost to the taxpayers and property owners.
