Former Sizzler in Lake Balboa to Become 111-Unit Residential Complex

The site of a shuttered Sizzler restaurant in Lake Balboa will be redeveloped into a 111-unit mixed-use apartment building.

Per an Urbanize.LA report, Lion Signature Inc. is seeking city entitlements to raze a nearly 50,000-square-foot dormant restaurant and its surface parking lot to pave the way for the construction of a four-story building at 16949-16955 Sherman Way.

The project will feature a mix of studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments with roughly 4,500 square feet of ground-floor commercial space and 160 parking slots on two subterranean levels. There will also be 13 apartments earmarked for low-income affordable housing.

Alajajian Marcoosi Architects, the studio behind the Armenian American Museum in Glendale, will be designing the building.

The Sizzler restaurant, which closed during the pandemic, was sold in November 2019 for approximately $4.1 million. It is located roughly half of a mile south of a property at 7650 Balboa Blvd., where a mobile home park will be cleared to create a 150-unit mixed-use apartment building.
